Ocean conditions in January

The North-East monsoon (Kaskazi) is fully established. Warm Arabian Sea water sits over the Watamu Banks at about 28–29°C. With little wind-driven mixing, sediment stays on the seabed and plankton begins to concentrate in the top few metres — the first whale sharks of the season sometimes follow that surface food. Humpback Breeding Stock C3 is on the Antarctic feeding grounds; there are no whales on this coast in January.
